Student Information – FAQ

ufton court drama school

What are the sleeping arrangements at Ufton Court?

The house is separated into two wings with single sex accommodation offered on a dormitory style basis. The house has recently benefited from a modern upgrade to its wash facilities and adequate showers, WC’s and sinks have been installed.

Sheets, duvets and pillows are provided but visitors will need to bring a towel.

What is the daily routine?

All sessions at the Ufton Drama Summer School are compulsory and students are required to be on time to all workshops.

Each day can vary slightly depending on the schedule but a typical day at Ufton is as follows:

  • 7.30am – Students Wake Up
  • 8.15am – Breakfast
  • 9.30am – Start of Session 1
  • 12.15pm – End of Session 1
  • 12.30pm – Lunch
  • 1.30pm- Start of Session 2
  • 4.15pm – End of Session 2
  • 4.30pm – ‘Quiet Hour’ Starts
  • 5.30pm – ‘Quiet Hour’ Ends
  • 6.00pm – Dinner
  • 6.45pm – Free Time
  • 7.30pm – Start of Session 3
  • 9.15pm – End of Session 3
  • 10.45pm – Lights Out

There is plenty of free time between sessions to socialise with your fellow students but you will also see from the above that we have an allotted period each day which is named ‘Quiet Hour’. During this time, the house is more calm and relaxed and offers a valuable opportunity for students to recharge their batteries before dinner and the evening session. It might seem strange but it is a well-loved and well-utilised time of the day when students can just chill.

What is the catering like at Ufton Court?

We are very proud of the relationship we have nurtured with the housekeeping and catering team at Ufton Court and know that the standards they offer on our behalf are of exceptional quality.

Three meals are provided each day with a range of snacks and drinks being made available between sessions, including fruit. Menu’s are planned in advance and ensure that the recommended nutritional guidelines are followed.

The centre can cater for all dietary requirements including vegetarians, vegans, celiacs and those with specific allergies. The centre operates a policy that excludes any products which may containing nuts. We would ask that this policy is respected and fully adhered to.

I heard there is a party on the last night, do I have to bring a costume?

You are absolutely right! Yes, we traditionally finish our residential courses with a last night meal that is styled and catered around the theme of our courses for that year. Most of these parties are fully costumed for you but if we need you to bring anything else specifically then we will let you know in advance.

How do I get to Ufton Court?

What do I need to bring with me?

Each course has its own specific requirements of which students will be advised before the start of the course. We usually send out a final letter to all students around three months before the course.

However, we do always advise that students consider the essentials such as toiletries and snacks very carefully as there are no shops near Ufton Court. Please do remember though that we have a strict policy about no food being brought to the centre that contains nuts (see above).

All courses require students to bring with them:

  • Basic black clothing suitable for practical work. This will be a neutral performance costume (so no logos or insignias if possible please.)
  • Working clothes and footwear suitable for physical practical work
  • A water bottle
  • Towels and toiletries (especially deodorant…..it is hard work)
  • Notepad and pens
  • Insect repellent and sun cream

If you play a musical instrument that is portable then this is also very handy as students like to set up for an evening ‘jam’ in the gardens.

Lastly, bring a camera  You will regret it if you don’t!
